The team of the special monitoring mission in Ukraine works every day to document human rights violations in the territories where military conflicts are ongoing.
During November, representatives of the international special monitoring mission of the West Support Agency in Ukraine made working visits to the settlements: Posad-Pokrovske, Blagodatne, Kiselyvka, Myrolyubivka, Nadezhdivka, Zorivka, Chornobayivka, Muzikyvka, Znamyanka, Sovietanske in the Kherson region, Ukraine.
In order to properly record violations of international humanitarian law, 13 employees of the West Support Agency representative offices from around the world, as well as professional psychologists and representatives of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, took part in the working trip.
Thanks to the survey of residents of the de-occupied settlements where the mission worked, it was possible to obtain important information about the commission of war crimes and the places where they were committed. Unfortunately, we have to state that such crimes were committed by the military of the Russian Federation.
While working in the de-occupied village of Chornobayivka, mission security officers passed an exam on the quality of professional skills in real conditions. In connection with the activity of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, it was necessary to take measures to evacuate the officers of the mission from the territory that was in danger. As a result, no officer of the mission was injured, during the evacuation they performed at a high professional level.
A special place among human rights violations is the organization of illegal detention in improvised natural places, so-called prisons, and torture: beatings, electric shocks, imitation of execution, threats of violence or death, strangulation. In addition to physical violence, prisoners were kept in appalling conditions that could amount to torture and ill-treatment.
The case recorded by the mission was particularly striking in its brutality, in which, according to the respondent, after the couple refused to follow the instructions of the Russian army, Russian soldiers demonstratively shot the husband in the legs with a machine gun and forced him to dig a hole in the asphalt with his hands in the presence of his wife and daughter, for his own burial. In order to force the citizens of Ukraine to fulfill their will, the Russian military uses the fear factor in relation to close relatives.
According to the results of the last working visit to the Kherson region, 850 people were interviewed and 112 facts of crimes were recorded. All cases have been recorded and transferred to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the relevant competent authorities of Ukraine.
In total, 2,059 violations of international humanitarian law were detected during the period. All materials based on the discovered facts were transferred to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the relevant competent authorities of Ukraine.
In addition, during the working visit, representatives of the special monitoring mission in Ukraine determined and recorded the scale of the humanitarian disaster.
As a separate inadmissible fact, I would like to point out the crime committed by the soldiers of the Russian army against children in the town of Kiselyvka, during the invasion of the village, two children were shot in the legs by the soldiers for no reason.
Our Agency, in accordance with the interaction protocols, additionally informed our partner UNICEF and provided information on the discovered facts.
The mission intends to continue monitoring work in the future, so that society can provide a historical assessment of the events taking place in Ukraine today, according to the court's decision.
